# Signing in and out

You can sign in with an email address and password, or with **Continue with Google**. Either way, hiy.ai keeps you signed in with a session stored in your browser.

## The confirmation email

Signing up with an email address and password sends you one message, from **hello@hiy.ai**, holding the link that confirms the address and signs you in. Until you open it there is no account to sign into, so if nothing has arrived after a few minutes, check your spam folder — and **Resend email** on that screen sends a fresh one. Each link works exactly once.

## Proving you're a person

A form open to the whole internet is also open to scripts, so any of the forms that sign you in or email you — signing up, signing in, **Resend email**, and asking for a password reset — may first ask you to prove you're a person. Usually there is nothing to do and you'll barely see it; occasionally it asks for a click. There is nothing to set up on your side.

Each check covers one submission. If you send the same form twice — pressing **Resend email** again, say, or trying a password once more — the check simply runs again.

## If a link stops working

The links we email you — the one that confirms a new account, and the one that resets a password — expire after a while, and each works exactly once, so opening the same link a second time will not sign you in.

When that happens you land on the sign-in screen with a line saying so, rather than on the homepage with no explanation — and on the half of it that can send you a fresh link: the password-reset form if the link that died was a reset, the sign-up form if it was a confirmation. Enter your email again and a new one is on its way.

## Logging out signs you out everywhere

**Log out** in the account menu ends *every* session on your account, not just the browser you clicked it in. If you were signed in on a phone and a laptop, both are signed out.

That is deliberate: when you log out, you should be logged out.

## Clearing cookies is not the same as logging out

This one surprises people, so it's worth being plain about.

Your session lives in a browser cookie. Clearing your cookies deletes **your copy** of it — it does not tell hiy.ai anything. The session itself is still valid, so anything that already had a copy of it stays signed in. Nothing has been revoked; you've just thrown away your own key.

It also means the reverse: after clearing cookies, an already-open tab can keep showing the app until it next asks the server for something. Reload the page and you'll get the sign-in screen.

**If you want a session to actually end, log out** — or use the option below.

## Sign out other devices

**Account menu → Sign out other devices** ends every session except the one you're using. Reach for it when:

- you signed in on a shared or borrowed computer and walked away
- you cleared cookies or lost a device, and want to be sure the old session is dead
- you just want a clean slate without signing yourself out here

Because it leaves the current session alone, you can use it and carry on working. If you're not signed in anywhere right now, sign in first — a session can only be revoked by someone holding a valid one.

## Changing your password

Changing your password does not by itself sign other devices out. Use **Sign out other devices** as well if that's what you intend.
