# Slack

Your agent can answer in Slack: in direct messages to the app, and when someone @mentions it in a channel. Connect Slack once, in **Channels › Slack**.

## Connect Slack

1. **Open Channels › Slack** — Press **Connect Slack** on the **Slack** tile in **Channels**. Only an owner or admin can connect it.

2. **Add to Slack** — Press **Add to Slack** and approve hiy in Slack. One Slack workspace answers for one hiy workspace.

3. **Choose the agent** — Under **Answering agent**, pick who answers. Support Agents and Team Agents can; Expert Twins don't answer in Slack.

4. **Try it** — Send the app a direct message, or @mention it in a channel, then press **Check again**.

## Connection

**Connection** says whether Slack is working and when it last answered. **Reconnect Slack** adds it to the same workspace again and keeps your answering agent. **Disconnect…** stops it.

**Good to know:**

- Slack in Channels is part of the new Channels layout, rolling out; until then you connect it in [Integrations](/docs/connectors).
- If another hiy workspace already has your Slack workspace, disconnect it there first.
- A person on your team can take over a Slack thread from the Inbox. The agent stays quiet there until they hand back.
- If Slack is slow to take a reply, hiy tries again for up to 10 minutes, then drops it rather than post a stale answer.
